Probably the fuse Nick - the one with the red wires.   Either blown or not making proper contact in the clips.

Thanks Rob, I will check as had previous fuse box issues with the green circuit.

Do the front sidelights work, & do the dashboard lights work ? They are all on the same circuit as the rear lights

If like mine check the bullet connectors in the boot, mine used to pull apart when I filled the boot with holiday stuff.

Hi Bob, I will check this evening. I remember accidentally moving the rheostat for dash lights, could that be a possibility?
it’s somewhat sensitive

Unlikely, but you never know ! you may have disturbed something else when you were in there.

 Have you checked the fuse yet?    

If that was OK is there any power on the red/green wire at the fuse, when the light-switch is on?  If not it may be disconnected at other end where it joins the light-switch wire.

Red terminals and fuse cleaned and all working. Thanks chaps, invaluable advice as always
