Grahamgl Posted September 9 Report Posted September 9 Gentlemen, My TR4 tub came back today after pyrolysis and epoxy coating. The exercise has revealed that the nearside sill has numerous perforations, so I want to have a new sill fitted. Would someone please advise me the best place to buy one from, particularly with reference to its fitting. Moss would appear to stock two different versions and British Heritage only sell through third parties. All advice welcome. Thanks Graham Quote
RogerH Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 Hi Graham https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/sill-panel-outer-lh-850281 The slightly more expensive sill states that it is supplied by BMH Otherwise call the TRShop in Chiswick West London. Roger Quote
stuart Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 TR Shop will supply the BMH ones, they are a better fit. Stuart. Quote
Gerard W Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 Hi Graham, I also recently replaced the sills, both inner and outer, on my TR4 and used the BMH ones supplied by TR Shop. To be more precise, I've done the RH side and still have the LH side to do (once I've finished everything on the RH side then I can turn the car around and start the other side, limited space in the garage!) Though I had "warmed up" on easier welding repairs for several months before tackling the sills, it was still a huge step up in complexity. I reckon I spent 200 hours, but that includes repairs to the bottoms of the A post, B post, floor panel and footwell, basically an inch of everything touching the sills! But I'm very happy with the result. The main issue I had, and which I posted about on the forum, was that the curved section on the outer sill didn't seem long enough, see photo below. In the end, by clamping everything very tight, I was able to get a decent fit, but had to cut, adjust and reweld the new end caps quite considerably to fit. Gerard Quote
Grahamgl Posted September 22 Author Report Posted September 22 Gerard, I have gone with the TR Shop BMH sill but I am having the fitting work done by a restoration company, I have zero welding skills. My tub also needs new floor pans, again from TR Shop, same fitting route. Graham Quote
stuart Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Yes unfortunately the new end caps aren’t a very good fit, it’s a shame as Moss had some really good ones made several years ago, proper deep draw pressed, unfortunately it seems they’re no longer being supplied and the current ones need a fair bit of altering to suit, it’s not the sills that’s wrong.
