Hi everyone.  I am in the process of working up an events calendar for next year and it struck me that 2027 will see two significant TR related anniversaries that should be celebrated.

The first of these anniversaries led to the creation of the second TR event a few months later so there is definitely a linkage behind them.

In 1977 the Queen celebrated her 25th year on the throne and her Silver Jubilee was marked by an extra Bank holiday in June.  It was also marked by the TR Register when someone had the great or daft idea driving 25 TRs all the way from John O'Groats down to Lands End, a distance of roughly 960 miles over the course of that weekend.  We did it with just one over night stop at the Chateau Impney just outside Droitwich and with a police escort through red lights through Glasgow.

I'm now proposing that we celebrate this event with another run only this time starting at Lands End and ending up in Scotland whereby you might like to take in the opportunity of a few extra days sight seeing.

The format has yet to be decided. Do we make it quick dash up the Motorways and A roads  or do we take in a more leisurely route calling into as many local groups along the way as possible?

I think its unlikely that we would be able to muster 50 cars to do this event, nice as that might be but it would be good to see some of the original participants take part in the run.  So if you fancy giving your TR more exercise than its done all this year then do drop me a line so I can compile a list of willing victims.

The photos below are some that I have dug out from the original run.  You will note that we had some spurious sponsorship from some companies who probably had no idea what they wee signing up for but we were all very grateful that they did.  You will note that Chris Sergison did the whole run on aeroscreens. Good job the weather was sunshine all the way!

I said the second event owes its beginning to the event above and that is because the drive down from Scotland took us through the Lake District. now that was a part of the country I had never visited before  and so as we passed through the glorious scenery I thought it would make a great place to hold a TR weekend. At that is how the Lakes Weekend was born  which next year will see its 50th anniversary.  I should also point out that it will also be the last ever Lakes Weekend and it will be limited to just 50 cars. the days of having to try and cater for the best part of a hundred or more TRs in the Lakes these days is well and truly over.

As a result it will for the first time be a ticket only only event and your place must booked in advance.   As it to be a celebration there will of course be the usual drives over the famous Lakeland passes and stops at the usual pubs along the way.  I'm also hoping to get the exclusive use of a hotel  because I think the days of camping under wet canvass are almost certainly over.

So if you are interested in joining in on the very last Lakes weekend then please send me an email to events@tr-register.co.uk  and state if you would be interested in staying in a hotel

Sound like a great idea to me.  It could also celebrate 75 years of TRs if we take the first TR as the prototype shown at the 1952 Motor Show.

Which is exactly what the TR Register did four years earlier in 1973 when we celebrated 21 years of TRs by organising the Lands End to John O’Groats run, sponsored by Unipart - this one being non stop with four refuelling (cars and drivers) points.  Sadly many of the entrants are no longer with us.

Thanks for the photo Stuart.  if anyone has anymore please send them to me. As for the IWE we are still working on next years events but we hope to have things sorted out soon.

Mike, what you say is very true but I think there are quite a few who are not only still alive but still lave their cars.  From memory there was Darryl in the works TR7  Pete Wiggleworth was in the 2.5 estate spares car,  Howard Rose was in a TR2   There was a Dove with 4 headlights which is now owned by Gary Scott, Chris Sergison in his TR2, Tony Jeanes in his TR3A , Alec Pringle in his TR6 and there was a bright yellow TR6 with triple Webers which I think blew its engine and myself in my TR5.  I had to change the gear box in the car park of the Chateau Impney as I'd lost two gears on the way down from Glasgow.  If you can think of anyone else please let me know and would you be up for doing it?

Afraid I can't help with the 1977 event as I did not take part.  I was talking about the original 1973 event which was sidescreen only, I'll see whether I can find an entry list.

Not sure if I could do it again, certainly not non stop!

Clyde Valley Group cars at the Glasgow stop on the 1973 run.

If dates are OK I would like to make a provisional entry for the LE-JOG run.
