oxf2 Posted April 12 Report Posted April 12 I would like to archive this forum to my computer. If I do that right now (as anybody can, it's easy enough), the https requests are going to put a load on the forum's server, thereby possibly making the forum run slow for other users. I don't think our USA friends are heavy users here, so maybe during the wee hours, UK time is a good time to do this. Could the owner of this forum confirm or otherwise elighten me on this particular point of timing please? Indeed, could the owner please let me know if there are any reasons at all why they might not want me to do this archiving? I doubt if GDPR is a concern, given that all content I can archive is by definition already freely available to logged in users. Inevitable somebody will ask: Why do I want to archive the forum? Because data loss can and does happen, and -- I believe -- did happen here a few weeks ago with the "Alec's Inn" subforum when I understand some forum-content was irretrievably lost. I would like to make sure that I have a safe copy of all the staggering tips, suggestions and tutorials that the TR-heads have so freely and kindly contributed over the years, so that they are never lost, whether by cock-up, conspiracy, nor any other unfortunate kind of mischance. oxf2 Posted May 31 Author Report Posted May 31 (edited) Just tried this with trusty wget : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wget ... which usually works fine for archiving purposes. Not here though. Shell input and output went: $ wget -r -v https://trforums.com [...] HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 301 Moved Permanently ... which I've never seen before. I guess some config file in the ./.htaccess directory is causing a problem due to some content therein reflecting in some way the recent change of url. Would be good to get a proper archive, but my usual method here has failed 😞 Edited May 31 by oxf2 rm one errant preposition Quote
