Hi all.   A question about bonnets.   The white one I have taken off my car.   The red one I bought to repair the white one, however looking at them there are structural differences.      I have read on another forum that the tr5 had the receivers for the bump stops near the scuttle and angled support brace?  Which is the correct one for a 1962 car.    Also the cross brace, there is a significant gap underneath both.   Is this normal?PXL_20250429_154255333.thumb.jpg.fd819c2803b15a9dc23371e10da49196.jpgPXL_20250429_154243452.thumb.jpg.d54b5545488074b5159a222d38212d47.jpgPXL_20250429_154056886.thumb.jpg.05a7810d47e1bc492578859cd8eb4498.jpgPXL_20250429_154140791.thumb.jpg.02041681ee61e34799a77bf4070f1ee2.jpg

The red one is from an early TR4 but if yours is early 1962 it should have a short bulge bonnet

All thank you.    Looking at photos of the car when I first bought it, the paint other than the bonnet has survived pretty well which makes me think it's been replaced.    Good job I inadvertently bought the right one Screenshot_20190816-1503593.png.a9af1818b24b5a1cc982db7916cd46e5.png

Hi

if the red one is sufficiently better you can remove and relocate the strengthening bar by drilling out the spot welds and put welding it in the right position, and similarly remove the bonnet buffers in the back corners again by removing the spot welds and plug welding any holes that remain.

all doable at home.

Both longitudinal braces are out of shape.

Assuming you intend to use the red one, I would remove the brace and shape it correctly before plug welding it back in.

I would also strengthen the bonnet...eg. plug welding in strips on the inside of the sides🫤...This assists in eliminating the bends that occur as seen on the rear of the white bonnet....There are also other measures.

Obviously need to be very careful when repairing the bonnet to avoid any twisting.
