I find that the only reasons I go to town these days is to go to specsavers, the doctors, the hospital, boots (to pick up my prescriptions) and the tip. Sad!

Thankfully my local tip is in the opposite direction to the town.

Having said that Hayes is a tip in itself. I hate the place.

49 years of accumulated garage/workshop and household junk and detritus prevents moving. We just don’t have the energy any longer.

Yes, I do know what you mean, I could not now consider moving anywhere untill old age leaves no option :o

At age 75 with various aches and pains (and probably more on the way) the fear of moving and finding it not possible to cope is quite real.

Sue had a new hip joint fitted the other week.

It took 5 weeks from seeing the GP to having the job completed (in a private hospital funded by the NHS)

That is knocking on the GP door and asking how long n   to saying thank you as we left the hospital.  5 weeks.  OK that is not the norm.

I have considered moving down to the South West for months at a time but haven't got there yet.

My late wife decided we were moving from Devon to be nearer to the grandchildren. Initially it seemed like a daunting prospect but once we started the process it all went very smoothly. The only issue was that two years after we moved she was diagnosed with cancer.

But certainly you don’t have to be afraid of moving, it’s just a case of starting the process.

Roger, Do it!

I moved from Surrey (now 'London'!) and working in Brentford about 30 years ago.

Despite 'the distance', you will not look (nor wish to go) back..........

We moved away from the crowded South East and it was the best thing we ever did!

A little tip when moving is to rent a lock-up for all the garage/shed/loft stuff to give yourself breathing space, then go through it all once you have settled in to the new place
